Introduction to Cognitive Therapy

Places available | 21 Oct - 21 Oct
You will learn how this model helps clients to achieve greater self-awareness and change their thinking and behaviour.

You will learn how this model helps clients to achieve greater self-awareness and change their thinking and behaviour. This course explores Cognitive-behavioural Therapy (CBT) which has become one of the main models for counselling in recent years. At the heart of CBT lies the idea that the negative and unrealistic ways in which people think about themselves is the root of their emotional and behavioural difficulties. Two aspects of thinking; thoughts and underlying beliefs are particularly relevant to CBT and will be examined. The course is practical as well as theory-based and will include step-by-step procedures of the stages in CBT.

Frankl and the search for meaning

Places available | 24 March - 24 March

Viktor Frankl's experiences in the concentration camps and his logotherapy theory have inspired many to lead more purposeful lives. Discover how to apply his thoughts and methods to create more meaning in your own life.

Viktor Frankl's experiences in the concentration camps and his logotherapy theory have inspired many to lead more purposeful lives. Discover how to apply his thoughts and methods to create more meaning in your own life. His Man’s Search for Meaning is recognised as both a personal development classic and a primer in logotherapy, a form of existential therapy. In this introductory workshop you will learn key ideas that you can apply to give your own life more meaning and purpose. The course will also be of interest to life coaches, counsellor or psychotherapists who wish to assist their clients with these issues.

The course will be very practical, the intention being to look at Frankl ideas and see what you can take from them. His ideas about the areas to find meaning, and his techniques for finding more purpose, will be of interest to anyone who has thought about these questions, and also anyone thinking about career change or who has a desire to change direction in life. Participants should be willing to work on some of these issues in small groups and on their own on the day. The course is not intended as an alternative to therapy for dealing with deeper emotional issues such as anxiety or depression.
